WITH THE BEETLES

Outside my window there are

People sleeping with the beetles

Some of them have a name

Others just a sex or an estimated age

They all lay their heads down

Within the space of a few months

Even weeks

Before the summer had truly arrived

A family of four fell asleep

On the very same night

The fifth of May

Grandmother Erna too

There are 250 or more

And they all fell asleep from the war

I see your window from here

Come and lay your head down

Next to mine

I knew the sunshine you feel

And I knew the cold nights

Now my fate is nothing but waiting for you

It happened here

And not that long ago

It happens now

And not that far away.
